Government confers State Honours

President distributes state honour Republic Day Medal and Award

President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav conferred on 22 May 2012; state honours, decorations, medals and awards on 139 people present; from various walks of life and professions to recognise their special contribution to the nation and society. This is the first time that the government decided to award different personalities, after the country was declared Republic in 2007.

President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav honoured them amid a special function held at President’s Office, Shital Niwas.

On the occasion, the President conferred Border Researcher and Former Director General of Survey Buddhi Narayan Shrestha with Suprabal JanasewaShree (Third) in recognition of his significant contribution to the state and to enhance the glory and welfare of the Nepali people. It is also written in the certificate (Bibhushan Adhikarpatra) that ‘All the best to your work to increase the prestige of Nepal and Nepali people, maintaining the dignity of this decoration.’

The government recommended Shrestha for the award in recognition of his contribution made in the state for land survey management/border research for years.










Late Ganesh Man Singh was honoured with Nepal Ratna Bibhushan posthumously and Late Manmohan Adhidari was conferred Rastra Gaurav Manpadvi posthumously; and their sons Prakash Man Singh and Prakash Adhikari received the award on their father’s behalf respectively. National Poet Madhav Ghimire and noted Culture Expert Satya Mohan Joshi were honoured with Ujwal Kirtimaya Rastradeep (Second). Twenty-one times Mount Everest Climber Appa Sherpa was decorated with Sukirtimaya Rastradeep (Second).

The government, on the recommendation of the Cabinet, had decided to confer state honours and decorations of various ranks on the occasion of First Republic Day on 29 May 2010.











Vice-President Parmananda Jha, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi, Constitution Assembly Chairman Subas Nembang, Deputy Prime-Ministers, Ministers, Nepali Army Commander-in-Chief Chhatraman Singh Gurung and high ranking government officials were present at the ceremony.

It is to be noted that three Madan Puraskar Winners Satya Mohan Joshi (1956, 1960 and 1971), Buddhi Narayan Shrestha (2000) and Jagadish Ghimire (2007) had received the Medals as state honour this year.
